Foodie Recs in Tokyo, Anyone?
So, I'm going to Tokyo. And I'm collecting Tokyo restaurant and general food advice. I've trolled through the Chowhound Japan board and some guidebooks, and here's what I've got thus far. (This list serving a dual purpose as my conglomoration of all facts, but also a feedback mechanism! So please...comment away if you have any Tokyo restaurant recommendations!)
Department Store Food Floors
* Seibu Ikebukuro, biggest food floor in town
* Isetan in Shinjuku, highly regarded. Jean-Paul Hevin Cafe, macarons from Pierre Herme, Dalloyau, Sadaharu Aoki, Henri Le Roux, and Chez cima, bread from Boulangeriepicerie and Hediard
* Daimaru at Tokyo Station
New York Grill in the Park Hyatt
Ryugin. Roppongi, modern Kaiseki.
Menya Kissou. Koto-ku. Asakusa. Ramen.
Sushi Mizutani. Ginza. Sushi. Michelin 3-star.
Jiro. Roppongi Sushi. I think. I don't really know what this is, except that people keep recommending it!
Any other hot tips? Please let me know before July 1!

You certainly can’t go far wrong with Tsukiji. I’d also recommend teppanyaki at Akasaka restaurant at the top of the ANA hotel.
My other favourites are here but you may want to steer clear of the likes of MOS burger and Coco curry if you haven’t got that long in Tokyo.

I would say for atmosphere (of eating grilled food amongst salarymen in tiny eating places) try to find Shonben alley near Shinjuku station - there are tons of tiny eating places which is very much not what Shinjuku is all about (high rise, flashing neon etc). Food is basic grilled izakaya stuff, but tastes great washed down with a a beer..........

Sounds like a great gastronomy tour. I am not sure how many days or meals you have in Tokyo, but if you get a chance to get out of the city, you might want to take a day trip to places like, Mt. Takao, Hakone, or Nikko. I have some restaurant recommendations in these areas if you would like! Let me know.
